Don’t let all those stately Colonial buildings and historic sites fool you – York is one of Pennsylvania’s most vibrant and interesting communities. From the Harley Davidson motorcycle factory to the wineries on the “Uncork York“ vineyard tour, York is alive with enough diverse delights and discoveries to please everyone.
Founded in 1741, York was one of the first capitals of the United States (along with Philadelphia, Lancaster and Baltimore). The town has sites connected with both the Revolutionary War and the Civil War – truly a paradise for history buffs.
But today’s York is also a dynamic and thriving city, with a solid economic base of industry, retail operations and tourism. A recent downtown revitalization program included the construction of new retail centers, public buildings, and loft apartments.
York is also home to Sovereign Bank Stadium, a beautiful arena built in 2007, where during baseball season you can join thousands of fans to watch the city’s own professional baseball team, the York Revolution. And if you like quirky sports, don’t miss the local “Pogo Squad", a group of about twelve extreme pogo performers who participate in area events, including the York St. Patrick's Day Parade.
