DuBois is a small city in Clearfield County, one of Pennsylvania’s most beautiful regions, located near the Allegheny Forest. Founded as a lumber town, the city became a thriving coal mining center in the 1800s.
Because of its proximity to several state forests and parks, DuBois is an outdoorsman’s paradise. Hunting and fishing are very popular activities. Families can enjoy hiking, canoeing, camping and ATV trail riding. Or take a trip to see an elk herd in nearby Elk County – it’s an experience you’ll never forget. For golfers, DuBois offers several excellent courses, and wine lovers can tour and sample wines at nine regional vineyards. The town also sponsors a “Concerts in the Park” series for music lovers of all ages.
The nearby town of Punxatawney draws thousands of people each year on Groundhog Day for the appearance of “Punxatawney Phil” the groundhog who allegedly determines how long winter will last. You don’t have to believe the myth to enjoy the fun!
