C&S and Employees Donate Generously to United Way: Workplace Campaign Sets Record

C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. and its family of companies has announced that employee contributions to the 2010 United Way campaign have once again exceeded past records. More than $933,000 in employee pledges and corporate matches will be invested in the company’s communities through 97 local United Way member agencies.

Donations from employees to United Way increased by 8% compared to 2009. The increase in giving and participation was driven by C&S Human Resources personnel who helped raise awareness and increase pledges.

“The work of the United Way resonates with our employees, and I find that inspiring,” said Rick Cohen, C&S Chairman and CEO. “Our collective investment increases the United Way’s ability to advance the common good by creating opportunities and a better life for all.”

C&S is one of 120 national and global companies designated as a Corporate Leader by the United Way of America. Combined, these companies contribute more than $1 billion and 25 million volunteer hours to their communities each year.

The United Way network includes nearly 1,300 chapters in the U.S. each serving local residents. The mission of the United Way is to advance the common good by addressing the underlying causes of problems in three key areas: education, income and health.
