Bringing Hope to Tables This Holiday Season - C&S Wholesale Grocers Continues Tradition of Seasonal Turkey Donation
Keene, N.H. – November 24, 2009 – As an expression of caring for neighbors in need, and in response to difficult economic conditions, C&S Wholesale Grocers Inc. and its employees have donated 7172 turkeys to Feeding America member food banks. This represents a 32% increase in the number of turkeys donated last year and is enough to make approximately 220,000 wholesome, nutritious meals.
The donation comes soon after the release of a USDA report indicating that 49 million Americans – 1 in 7 U.S. families – are struggling to get enough to eat. The report also found that almost 17 million of these people are children.
“Beyond the laughter around our Thanksgiving tables, the turkey and all the trimmings so many of us enjoy, there are too many families that are struggling,” said Gina Goff Director of Community Involvement. “Our contribution of turkeys is a meaningful way to provide meals, caring and hope.”
For nearly 30 years at holiday time, C&S has offered free turkeys to its employees and their families. Many choose to donate their turkey to their local food bank, sharing the spirit of the holiday season with families who might not otherwise have a Thanksgiving meal.
