C&S Names 2009 Volunteer of the Year
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - Keene, NH - Every year since 2005, C&S Wholesale Grocers, Inc. has named a Volunteer of the Year, recognizing the valuable contributions that our employees make to their communities in their spare time. The 2009 honoree is Lemuel Rodriguez. Since 2007, Lem has worked in the C&S food distribution center in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, auditing outgoing product selections.
The announcement was made during National Volunteer Week, a celebration which inspires, recognizes and encourages people such as Lem to seek out imaginative ways to engage in their communities.
Last year, Lem devoted 1,000 hours to the Council of Spanish Speaking Organizations of the Lehigh Valley. He volunteered his time to mentor low-income youth in South Bethlehem, PA as an assistant boxing coach and trainer.
“He is a great role model to the youth and helps by listening and offering ideas when presented with problems,” says the Executive Director of the Council, Sis-Obed Torres Cordero.
Lem became a candidate for the C&S Volunteer of the Year award by submitting a Dollars for Doers application. A panel of company employees rated each application for spirit of volunteerism, leadership and making a difference in people's lives. Through the Dollars for Doers program, nonprofit organizations benefit twice, once from the C&S employee’s contribution of time, and again from a C&S contribution of $1 per hour volunteered, to a maximum of 1,000 hours or $1,000.
