In the summer of 1841, Edgar Fenn Peck, a wealthy New Yorker who had just moved to Smithtown, began the first serious exploration of the wilderness of what is now Central Islip. He was convinced the area was suitable for development, though many disagreed. A year later, the Long Island Rail Road arrived at what was called Suffolk Station, and the adjacent Central Islip was effectively born.
Central Islip's Empire Zone has attracted over a Billion Dollars of investment. The new $210 million Federal Courthouse, County Court Complex, hi-rise state of the art office center, soon to break ground luxury hotel, together with internationally acclaimed Computer Associates, have generated many new jobs. Housing choices in Central Islip include town homes, single family homes, and luxury senior accommodations. And it's all near major highways, parkways, the Long Island Railroad and MacArthur Airport. Central Islip is also home to the New York Institute of Technology.
