Windsor Locks, CT
The city of Windsor Locks takes its name from a series of locks which were built in the early 1880s on the nearby Connecticut River. The town, which began as a farming community and transportation center, is now home to one of New England’s largest airports, Bradley Field, which includes the New England Air Museum.
Most of the town’s businesses and hotels are clustered near the airport; beyond that, there are still many farms where drying sheds for shade-grown tobacco stretch as far as the eye can see. Hiking, biking, skiing on Mount Tom, boating on the Connecticut River and ballooning are popular local activities. Shopping, museums, nightlife, theatre and cultural opportunities are all easily available in Springfield, MA and Hartford, CT, both within a 15 minute drive of Windsor Locks. Springfield is home to the Basketball Hall of Fame. Hartford offers many historic and cultural attractions as well, including the Mark Twain House, the Garde Arts Center, and the Wadsworth Atheneum. World class entertainment can be enjoyed at the Hartford Civic center.
