Grant Limitations & Guidelines

Please carefully review our limitations as we are only able to support those organizations whose missions are closely aligned with ours.

Limitations

Please note that only one donation per year per organization is granted, regardless of size or type. Due to the high demand for support, C&S does not typically make grants to the same organization over successive years; an organization that applies and is funded in October 2007 for example, is asked to wait until October 2009 to reapply in order to give other nonprofit community groups a chance for support.

C&S does not fund the following:

  • Capital Campaigns
  • Multi-Year Requests
  • Endowment Campaigns
  • Individuals
  • Scholarships
  • National health organizations or their statewide/regional branches
  • Religious Organizations
  • Fraternal, Veteran or Political Organizations
  • Travel Expenses
  • Organizations that discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, ethnicity, or sexual preference
  • Sports Teams
  • United Way member agencies *
(with the exception of those that focus on hunger)

* Note on United Way Support

Community kitchens, food shelves, soup kitchens and other local hunger alleviation groups that are United Way agencies are invited to apply for mini-grants of up to $1,000. All other types of United Way agencies are invited to request product donations only. Support is directed to communities where C&S has a major presence. Preference is given to organizations within 20 miles of our facilities in:

  • Vermont - Brattleboro
  • New Hampshire - Keene
  • Connecticut - Windsor Locks & Suffield
  • Massachusetts - Hatfield & Westfield
  • Maryland - Aberdeen, North East, & Upper Marlboro
  • New Jersey - Dayton, New Brunswick, North Brunswick, Woodbridge & Avenel
  • New York - Chester, Newburgh, Montgomery & Greater Buffalo
  • New Hampshire - Keene
  • Pennsylvania - Harrisburg, Dunmore & Bethlehem
  • California - Fresno, Sacramento & Stockton
  • Hawaii - Kapolei & Honolulu
  • Alabama - Birmingham
  • South Carolina - Mauldin

C&S prefers to invest in nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations whose programs address specific issues, community-wide concerns, and have measurable outcomes or results. Organizations must have two years of direct service experience prior to applying.
